3D Printed Meat Lab Is Opening Up Shop in North Carolina

(NewsReady.com) – In recent years, companies have made plant-based products that taste like real meat. Others are trying to grow meat in labs to make it more sustainable. Now, North Carolina will be home to the world’s largest 3D meat printing facility.

On December 7, BELIEVER Meats broke ground at its facility in Wilson. According to a press release, the new building will be 200,000 square feet and able to produce at least 10,000 metric tons of meat. The Israeli company called the groundbreaking a “watershed moment for the cultivated meat industry.”

The company chose the location because of “its highly qualified talent pool” and similar successes other companies have enjoyed in “integrating technology-driven solutions to improve the lives of residents.”

The company will locate the new facility about 40 miles east of Raleigh, the capital, and is investing $123.35 million in the county. It plans to hire about 100 people within three years.

Governor Roy Cooper (D) said BELIEVER Meats’ plan to build its factory there just “validates” the state’s technological investments in people and processes. He went on to call the Tar Heel State one of the best possible business environments.

What do you think about lab-grown meat? Would you eat it?
