Biden Nominee Steps Down After Massive Backlash

(NewsReady.com) – President Joe Biden is still working on filling positions in his administration. Even though Democrats have 50 senators with Vice President Kamala Harris acting as the tie-breaker, he still hasn’t been able to fill the roles. Recently, one of his nominees backed out.

On December 7, Biden released a statement announcing he’d accepted Saule Omarova’s request to remove herself as the nominee to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. She would have acted as the head regulator for the banking industry in the position. The president claimed her nomination process had been filled with public attacks.

During a Senate hearing, Republicans pointed to academic papers she’d written where she advocated the Federal Reserve taking control of people’s financial assets instead of private banks. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) summed up the GOP’s feelings in a meme she posted on Twitter.

Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) spoke out against Omarova’s nomination, too. He said she calls herself a radical, but he believes she’s a socialist. It wasn’t just Republicans objecting to her; behind the scenes, several Democrats were protesting her nomination as well. Even Biden’s Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen reportedly objected.

The revolt from the Left is what eventually forced her to pull her nomination. Biden hasn’t said who will replace her.
