Convict Gets New Charges for Death Threats Against Biden and Others
(NewsReady.com) – The Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged an incarcerated Pennsylvania man with threatening the president, a federal judge, and a US congressman. Now, the man is facing decades more in prison.
According to the DOJ, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) allegedly received a letter from 25-year-old Robert Maverick Vargo on October 11. The correspondence stated the suspect was going to murder the congressman who serves as the chairman of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 incident.
Vargo reportedly went on to say he was going to make Thompson “feel the rest of our pain & suffering.” The letter warned the congressman that he could not hide. “I am going to kill you & those you love,” it read. It also threatened President Joe Biden and District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani. Inside the envelope was a white powdery substance, and the letter also mentioned “anthrax.”

The Capitol Police Hazardous Material Response Team responded to the Rayburn House Office Building and investigated the scene. They determined the white powder was not anthrax or any other dangerous substance. The letter originated from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania.
Several law enforcement agencies are investigating the case. Currently, Vargo is facing 25 years in prison. Assistant US Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is prosecuting the case against the suspect.
