(NewsReady.com) – The US/China relationship is strained, to put it mildly. President Donald Trump’s administration has taken steps to punish the Communists for various offenses, including the theft of intellectual property and human rights violations. Recently, the adversarial government issued a threat that could make the situation even worse.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Chinese officials are warning the US they may start detaining Americans. The move would be retaliation for the DOJ’s prosecution of scholars linked to the Communist government.
John Demers, head of the State Department’s national security division, didn’t comment on this specific case. He did warn Americans in the country that the Chinese government could impose an “exit ban,” prohibiting them from leaving the country.

Detaining American citizens as a means of retaliation would undoubtedly add fuel to the fire. President Trump doesn’t seem like the kind of leader who will take kindly to China threatening the country he’s sworn to protect.
