(NewsReady.com) – On August 31, Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer, escaped from the Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania. The inmate climbed up two walls, ran through razor wire, and hid in the wilderness for two weeks. His taste of freedom has now come to an end, and the police were very excited to catch him.
Picture Perfect
On September 13, law enforcement officers dressed in camouflage walked Cavalcante out of the woods. Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters that the killer tripped an alarm when he tried to get into a home. Officers descended on the area and created a new search perimeter.
The police used a US Drug Enforcement Administration aircraft with heat-seeking technology to track the escaped convict. Lightning storms forced the aircraft out of the sky.
Early in the morning, the aircraft was able to return to the sky, and tactical teams were able to pick up the criminal’s trail again. At about 8:18 a.m., a call went out over the radio announcing the capture of Cavalcante. “I am proud to announce the subject is in custody. Repeating, the subject is in custody.”
A video soon made its rounds on the internet, showing about three dozen law enforcement officers posing for a photo with the captured murderer.

A 4-year-old Belgian Malinois named Yoda bit the escapee when he tried to flee the police, subduing him.
The Murder
In August, a judge sentenced Cavalcante to life in prison for the murder of 33-year-old Deborah Brandão. In 2021, he stabbed his ex-girlfriend 38 times in front of her two children, ages seven and four, at the time. According to authorities, she’d brought her kids to America from Brazil because she wanted them to have a better life.
Prosecutors claimed Cavalcante murdered Brandão to keep her quiet about a murder he allegedly committed in Brazil. In that case, he was accused of murdering one of his friends before fleeing to America.
While Cavalcante was on the run, his mother, Iracema, spoke to The New York Times and defended her murdering son. She claimed he had to stab his ex-girlfriend to death in front of her small children because “he had no other choice.” He will have the rest of his life to think about the alternate roads he should have taken, instead of ripping a young woman away from her family.
