Hero Customer Charged With Murder After Defending Store Staff

( – People die across the US in incredibly violent and tragic ways every day. A Texas man thought he was doing the right thing when he tried to help workers at a Family Dollar. Now, he is facing murder charges.

On November 39, Dallas police responded to a call at a Family Dollar store. Just before 7:30 p.m., a person was shot at the business.

According to a press release from the police, the man who was shot, identified as 26-year-old Phillip Betts, was trying to steal from the store when he got into a fight with employees. Kevin Jackson Sr., 47, entered the building as the altercation was taking place and shot the man who later died. Police officers arrested him, and he is now facing murder charges.

According to WFAA, court documents state the deceased man screamed at employees who tried to stop him from stealing. He hit one of the female workers multiple times with his fists. That’s when the other employee sprayed him with mace. When Jackson walked into the store, he was greeted by a chaotic scene.

Jackson told employees to move and shot the customer. Police said the evidence shows that the thief was running toward the door of the store when Jackson fired at him. The workers reportedly told police they were not near Betts when the shot was fired.
