On September 15, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced it had arrested 13 men following an elaborate sting. Operation Cyber Guardian II was run by detectives who posed as children on the internet. Men who reportedly contacted them and groomed them for sex were investigated. Eight of them turned up at an undercover location expecting to meet children and were arrested. Five more suspects were also taken into custody. Now, they’ve been charged with a total of 41 felonies and 3 misdemeanors.
One of the suspects is 42-year-old Kevin Sanders, a roving IT specialist for the Disney Corporation. He was arrested at Disney and charged with two felonies: transmitting harmful material to a minor and use of a computer to solicit a child for sex. Sanders’ role at Disney didn’t bring him in contact with the public, including children, but obviously, the company’s employee vetting procedures didn’t uncover his sexual preferences. Sanders told cops he has an “addiction” to talking to underage kids on the internet.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said his office will “continue to conduct proactive operations like this to search out these evil predators before they get to our children.”
