The company has reportedly lost almost $900 million across eight films.
(NewsReady.com) – Conservatives have been upset with Disney for years. It wasn’t just one issue but more an accumulation that put them on diverging paths. For example, in 2021, the company fired Gina Carano, a star in “The Mandalorian,” after she compared the discrimination she faced as a conservative to the same the Jews faced during WWII. Then at some point, the entertainment giant began adding warning labels to old movies, injecting gender identity and LGBTQ+ actors into content, and speaking out against Florida’s parental rights law.
While the entertainment giant battles to get back on top, the company is bleeding money at the box office.
Box Office Flops
The Valliant Renegade is a popular YouTube channel that views entertainment through a financial lens. Recently, the host analyzed what’s been going on at Disney after a list of box office flops. He looked at the last eight movies Disney has released over the previous year to find out where the company is at financially.
The movies Valliant Renegade analyzed are
- Lightyear
- Thor: Love and Thunder
- Strange World
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
- Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania
- Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
- The Little Mermaid
- Elemental
The host explained that he’s been tracking the films since they began production and followed them through the box office. He explained that Disney had massive budgets for the projects, but they have not gotten that money back in theaters. In fact, the company has seen a loss of almost $900 million.
According to the host, there are two main reasons for the losses. The first is that the films aren’t reaching the same audience they used to. He said the company had missed the mark on all of its movies in the last year. Some believe that’s because the company keeps inserting politics into its content.
Lack of Licensing
The other issue is that the company no longer licenses out to other companies, like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Instead, it puts the content back onto Disney+, a platform that’s also losing value. It recently lost around 4 million subscribers this year alone. He believes the company has lost $1 billion by not licensing the films that flopped out to the other platforms.
The Valliant Renegade concluded that Disney “is making all the wrong choices,” both creatively and by keeping everything under its control.
