DOJ Decides NOT to Investigate Nursing Home Deaths Involving Top Democrat

( – In the early days of COVID-19, Democratic governors in multiple states ordered nursing homes to accept people who’d tested positive for the virus. The governors were reportedly trying to free up hospital beds at a critical time. However, their ill-conceived plans led to outbreaks in homes with the country’s most vulnerable Americans. Many people died, possibly as a result of their directives. And, President Joe Biden’s DOJ just decided to do nothing about it.

Last week, the DOJ sent letters to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf informing them the agency wouldn’t be investigating whether they violated the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act. The head of the DOJ’s special litigation department, Steven H. Rosenbaum, said federal prosecutors had reviewed information before deciding to not do anything.

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY), who’d requested the investigation into Cuomo, slammed the decision. He said the “families and loved ones of the victims” deserve to know the truth about what happened. By not investigating, he believes the DOJ is participating in the “effort to deny the public answers and accountability.”

The families and friends who lost loved ones deserve answers, but now it seems they might never get them.
