(NewsReady.com) – In a new book, Peril, journalists Bob Woodward and Jim Costa say Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley spoke with China on his own prior to the election. The general reportedly spoke with Chinese Gen. Li Zuocheng to reassure him that the US wasn’t planning an attack. Former President Donald Trump has now responded to the reports, and to say he isn’t happy is an understatement.
On September 14, Trump slammed the man he appointed to chair the Joint Chiefs. He called the four-star general a “dumb***,” attacking him for the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. The 45th president suggested the government try his appointee for treason if the reports are true.
Trump went on to say, “The good news is that the story is Fake News” that was made up by the “weak and ineffective General [sic]” who worked for him. The former POTUS said he never planned to attack the Chinese.

Costa and Woodward also claim Milley spoke to other world leaders after the January 6 incident. Joint Staff spokesperson Col. Dave Butler disputed the claims that Milley went behind former President Trump’s back. He claimed the conversations were part of his normal responsibilities to convey “reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability.” Butler also said the phone calls were “staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense.”
The Pentagon has not revealed what Milley spoke about with the Chinese general.
