Fandango Founder Jumps To His Death From A Posh Manhattan Hotel

(NewsReady.com) – J. Michael Cline co-founded the online ticketing company Fandango. The company changed the way Americans purchased movie tickets. Sadly, he’s now passed away.

On July 16, the New York Police Department responded to a 911 call at the Kimberly Hotel. They found a man on the ground outside of the luxury hotel who looked like he’d suffered “a fall from an elevated position.” The 64-year-old Fandango co-founder reportedly died of suicide.

TMZ reported that Cline left a suicide note in his room. The note read, “So sorry. I can’t explain the pain of f****** up this much. I love you all.” After writing the note, he allegedly walked onto his 20th-floor balcony and jumped.

The businessman’s suicide shocked those who knew him. They said he’d undergone gallbladder surgery days before he died.

Cline graduated from Cornell University. He went to Harvard University for graduate school and received an MBA. He co-founded Fandango in 2000 but left in 2011. NBCUniversal owns the company now.

Art Levitt, Fandango’s co-founder and president, told The New York Times that Cline was “a bit of an adventurer” who was creative, loyal, and brilliant. He said that when Fandango was created, “he saw an opportunity in the market” and asked Levitt to manage it.

Cline also ran tech and venture capital firms. At the time of his death, he was working as the executive chairman of Juxtapose. The businessman also served on the board of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. He and his wife, Pamela Cline, have six children together.
