GOP Wins at State Level Could Lead to Control of House for a Decade

(NewsReady.com) – Many Democrats are still reeling after the predicted “blue wave” failed to appear in this month’s general election. But, for the Left, there’s worse news to come. GOP successes in state legislatures could overturn Democrat control of the House of Representatives for years.

The election already saw the Democrat grip on the House weaken, with the party likely to hold 222 seats in the next session – just 4 more than the threshold needed for a majority. Unfortunately for them, this is a census year, which means congressional districts in several states will be redrawn before the next election in 2022. Texas will gain two seats in that process, and several other states – including Florida and North Carolina – will gain one each. With the Republicans firmly in control of all three states’ legislatures, they have the chance to draw new boundaries to give them four more seats and wipe out Pelosi’s majority.

The Democrats will gain a seat in Oregon and could also eliminate GOP seats in states that are losing representatives. But thanks to a strong performance in state votes, the redistricting process is likely to heavily benefit the Republicans overall. Even if Biden does take the White House in the end, his party’s troubles are only beginning.
