(NewsReady.com) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 restrictions and mandates. He’s especially opposed to anything that violates a person’s personal freedoms. Recently, he proved that again by taking action against coronavirus vaccine mandates.
On October 11, Abbott issued an executive order banning vaccine mandates. However, he isn’t just preventing government entities from requiring the vaccine; he prohibited private companies from mandating it, as well. He also sent the directive to the Chief Clerk of the House and Secretary of the Senate to have lawmakers codify the order through legislation.
The governor said, “The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and our best defense against the virus, but it should remain voluntary and never forced.”
I issued an Executive Order prohibiting vaccine mandates by ANY entity in Texas.
I also added the issue to the Special Session agenda.

Abbott’s order means the Texas hospitals and other businesses that have mandated the vaccine must stop or fight him in court. Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee (D) attacked Abbott’s order, saying Texas businesses should sue the governor.
The executive order also contradicts President Joe Biden’s mandate requiring all businesses with more than 100 employees to mandate the vaccine or force their employees to undergo weekly testing. Abbott has made it a point to fight back against Biden’s agenda over the last nine months.
The Texas governor previously banned businesses from requiring vaccine passports to prove their vaccination status.
