Group Alleging That Crowdstrike Prioritizes Racially Diverse Coders Over Its White Male Developers

  • The CrowdStrike outage ground many industries to a halt.
  • The security company rolled out a bad update, which caused massive problems.
  • America First Legal has now filed a civil rights complaint.
  • CrowdStrike is under fire for its DEI policies.

(NewsReady.com) – When former President Donald Trump left the White House in 2021, some of his administration officials started America First Legal. The non-profit organization’s “about” page says it was created to combat the radical left’s agenda. The group recently filed a civil rights complaint against CrowdStrike.

What Is CrowdStrike?

On Friday, July 19, several television broadcasters, airlines, banks, and other industries experienced a massive blackout. Companies using Windows operating systems saw the feared Blue Screen of Death takeover their systems around the globe. Experts quickly realized the corporate security firm CrowdStrike was to blame.

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz announced the company was trying to fix a “defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts.” He said the issue wasn’t related to a cyberattack. The company’s Falcon platform was impacted by the problem. That’s a cloud-based solution that rolls many security solutions (like anti-virus capabilities, threat detection, etc.) into one hub to prevent bad actors from accessing the system.

A system update installed faulty software into the Windows operating system, which caused it to get stuck in a boot loop and display a message warning that “Windows didn’t load correctly.”

It took days for everyone impacted by the outage to get back on track again. Delta Airlines, for instance, was experiencing problems the following week. America First Legal is now blaming the problem on CrowdStrike hiring too many women and minorities, instead of white men with great credentials.

Civil Rights Complaint

On July 24, America First Legal released a statement announcing that it filed a federal civil rights complaint with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against CrowdStrike. According to the organization, the security firm was complicit in segregating its white male employees in favor of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hires.

America First Legal claimed the company has openly stated that “diversity” means including minorities and women. And that it uses that definition when it evaluates nominees to serve on its board of directors. CrowdStrike reportedly has nine resource groups that train the company on diversity topics that America First Legal believes are “filled with implicit bias” but says the resources provided by those groups are only given to people based on their sexual orientation, race, and sex. They named some of the groups, including Women of CrowdStrike and Team BELIEVE for black employees.

The legal organization noted that there is no group for white employees or men. There’s even a mentorship program for women but a similar one doesn’t exist for their male counterparts.

America First Legal contends the company is violating civil rights laws and wants it to be held accountable.
