(NewsReady.com) – McKamey Manor is an immersive haunted house in Summertown, Tennessee. It’s an extreme attraction where guests must sign liability waivers to enter and aren’t allowed to leave without permission from a staff member. The owner of the haunted house was recently arrested for allegedly committing horrendous crimes.

On July 19, Lawrence County, Tennessee law enforcement officers arrested Russ Alan McKamey at his home in Summertown. Police have accused him of physically assaulting his girlfriend. He was charged with multiple crimes, including rape, attempted second-degree murder, and domestic assault.

According to WKRN, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office records outlined the allegations against McKamey. He allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend multiple times. He is accused of strangling the victim to the point where she lost consciousness. McKamey also allegedly raped her and strangled her in a second assault, and she lost consciousness again.

The suspect’s bond was originally set at $1,000, but more charges were added, and it’s now over $100,000. He’s not allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim.

Hulu made a documentary about McKamey’s haunted house, which was originally located in San Diego, California, but moved to Tennessee in 2017. “Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House” documented the experiences of three people who signed up for the attraction. The waivers guests have to sign warn them that they might be waterboarded, have their teeth pulled, tattooed, have their nails ripped out, and be subjected to other kinds of psychological and physical torture.

In 2023, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti began investigating the business after concerns about his business practices surfaced. Complaints have surfaced from guests who said the employees at the attraction ignored their safe words and cries to stop the torture. Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to win $20,000 if they make it through the house but it’s designed to prevent anyone from winning the money.

McKamey’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 6.
