Biden’s Border Chief Succumbs to Pressure and Resigns

(NewsReady.com) – A record number of migrants crossed the border illegally in the fiscal year 2022. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) revealed more than 2.7 million immigrants entered the country. Now, the border chief has resigned after bipartisan pressure.

Last week, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reportedly asked CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus to resign, and the top official initially refused to give up his post. According to The Washington Times, the border chief gave in on November 12 and submitted his letter of resignation to President Joe Biden. He wished the administration “the very best going forward” and said his resignation was “effective immediately.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced President Biden accepted the resignation.

Magnus’ resignation came less than two weeks after Republicans sent a letter to Biden about the chief. They mentioned recent reporting that indicated Magnus was skipping important meetings regarding the number of people entering the country illegally. He also allegedly complained about high-ranking officials within the DHS. GOP lawmakers called the behavior “highly problematic” in light of the number of border crossings.

Conservatives said the border chief should be “engaged in [border] issues and not asleep at the wheel,” they demanded the president ask Magnus to resign. Deputy Commissioner Troy Miller is currently filling the position.
