(NewsReady.com) – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) isn’t bashful when it comes to undermining efforts by the Trump administration to realign American immigration policy. A leading member of “The Squad,” Omar aligned herself with AOC and other radical leftists creating havoc in a Democratic party already spiraling out of control. However, her recent scuffle with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) didn’t pan out how she expected.
On September 12, Omar dashed off a letter to ICE questioning its decision to deport illegal immigrants. Although she’s a longtime critic of ICE and the president’s immigration policies in general, she used the coronavirus as an excuse for her “so-called” concerns.
ICE is set to deport dozens of individuals from my district to Somalia, risking the spread of COVID.
ICE’s actions will not only put these individuals at risk, but could have far-reaching consequences for Somalia.
This week, I sent a letter to ICE to get answers.

ICE sent her a response last week, effectively shutting down those concerns. As their return letter explained, 36 of the 39 deportees had criminal histories of severe offenses, including murder, assault, domestic violence, drug trafficking, and conspiring to provide aid to foreign terrorist groups.
The letter from ICE also addressed Ilhan’s concerns regarding COVID-19, writing that it doesn’t “generally remove” immigrants who aren’t medically “fit for travel.” ICE medical personnel screen detainees for potential signs of illness and have done so long before the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Bottom Line
As ICE noted in the response, it fully cooperated with Somalia and honored their government’s request to test everyone before their repatriation. Perhaps Omar’s time would be better spent on issues such as the political and social unrest plaguing Democratic cities like Minneapolis, located in her home state of Minnesota.
