Ilhan Omar Just Became A TARGET Of Her Own Religion
(NewsReady.com) – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is one of the few Muslim lawmakers in Congress. She was the first lawmaker to ever wear a hijab on Capitol Hill, signaling that she adheres to her religious beliefs. However, a recent tweet from the lawmaker enraged people in the Muslim community.
On June 1, Omar tweeted a message for Pride Month, honoring the LGBTQ+ community. The Muslim lawmaker said she won’t stop fighting for them until they’re able to “live free from discrimination.” Some members of the Islamic community were unhappy with the congresswoman’s message.
One user asked Omar if she’s “even Muslim.”

Another user said they weren’t expecting to hear something like that from a “follower of the Abrahamic faith.” Some else inquired, “When are you Muslim what are you doing?” Others pointed out that she only expressed support for the gay community in the United States, but didn’t mention the troubles caused by them in other countries.
Traditionally, Islam doesn’t support the LGBTQ+ community. More than a dozen countries criminalize being gay. In some, those who are caught performing gay acts face death sentences. For example, Brunei, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and others have laws making homosexuality punishable by death. Omar didn’t respond to the anti-LGBTQ+ critics.
