Illegal Immigrant Wanted In Spain For Narcotics Trafficking Caught In The US

(NewsReady.com) – The US border with Mexico continues to be a major headache for the American people. Migrants have poured into the country throughout President Joe Biden’s first term. Immigration officials recently announced a man captured in the northeast was wanted by authorities in Spain.

On July 8, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston arrested a 25-year-old from Colombia on June 29 in Revere, Massachusetts. Spanish authorities are looking for the man for allegedly trafficking drugs into Spain.

According to the press release, Border Patrol originally arrested the unnamed individual after he entered the US near Del Rio, Texas, on Independence Day in 2022. He was given a notice to appear and then released on his own recognizance. Spanish authorities later issued an arrest warrant for the man.

On June 29, Massachusetts State Police arrested him again and charged him with driving an unregistered vehicle without a license. ERO Boston issued an immigration detainer to prevent his release from jail. He will remain in ERO custody until he’s deported from the US.

Todd M. Lyons, the director of ERO Boston, issued a statement saying Spanish authorities are looking for the man because he allegedly trafficked “poison into their country.” He tried to hide from authorities in Massachusetts, but Lyons said immigration authorities wouldn’t “allow New England communities to become safe havens for the world’s criminals.”

ICE said it wouldn’t be able to identify the immigrant because of privacy rights. A spokesperson for the agency said someone must be accused of significant criminality before federal authorities release their identity to the public. Charges related to driving without a license don’t count.

Ironically, the names of Americans arrested by police officers are often released to the public via department websites. Their mugshots are also made public in many places, but an illegal immigrant has the right to privacy.
