Impeachment: Vindication for Trump, Headaches for Dems

Impeachment: Vindication for Trump, Headaches for Dems
  • Acquittal expected this week.
  • 67 Senators would need to vote yes to convict.
  • State of the Union address.
  • Coronavirus control efforts.

( – After the Democrats failed in their bid to extend the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump by having additional evidence admitted into the records and witness testimony rendered, a vote that will lead to an acquittal is all but a certainty.

While the inability to remove the president from office invalidates the impeachment vote in the House, the Dems know the whole thing was an enormous blunder on their part. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the orchestrator of the inquest Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) are already trying to spin this as some sort of moral victory to appease their constituency.

Speaker Pelosi at her weekly news conference said:

“You cannot be acquitted if you don’t have a trial. You don’t have a trial if you don’t have witnesses and documentation and all of that.”

Rep. Schiff echoed her sentiment in what can only be described as irony at best on Twitter:

Business as Usual for Trump

President Trump, while certainly taking “victory laps,” is dealing with the forthcoming State of the Union Address before a divided Congress and the spread of the deadly coronavirus that is sparking fear around the world.

Some actions taken to fight the spread of the infectious bug include:

  • Mandatory quarantines for US citizens who visited Hubei Province China within the past 14 days
  • Diverting flights to specific airports if a passenger is discovered in-flight had been in China
  • Non-US citizens who visited China in the past 14 days will be denied entry, with some exceptions

While the odds of a major outbreak are “very low,” the administration is taking its responsibility to protect Americans. Understanding the concept that a small possibility does not mean something is an impossibility. A strong defense is needed because it has become a worldwide problem.

The Costa Smeralda cruise ship with 6,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members aboard was held at its dock in Italy when a Chinese national fell ill. Fortunately, in a relatively short time, officials were able to determine the woman had a common flu infection and the vacationers were allowed to see the sights.

In Indonesia, an airplane used to evacuate some of its citizens from China was held at the gate while health inspectors screened the passengers. After no active cases were found, the travelers were subject to a decontamination spray as they disembarked. They were then transported to housing where they will spend two weeks in isolation.

So, while the Liberals initiate damage-control from the impeachment debacle, the president is going about the business of leading the United States. One thing is sure, Democrats aren’t going to stop their rhetoric after all this. The question is, how badly are they underestimating the American people?
