  • The senator highlighted his roots in Middle America.
  • Vance called on the country and Republicans to unite.
  • He promised to fight for America.

(NewsReady.com) – America met Senator JD Vance (R-OH) on July 17 when formally accepted the Republican nomination for vice president. The Ohio lawmaker was once an opponent of former President Donald Trump but is now a staunch advocate of his MAGA policies. During his speech, he made that clear.

Vance also used his speech to highlight his working-class beginnings and Appalachian roots.

Small Town Boy

Vance was born in Middletown, Ohio, a town located between Dayton and Cincinnati. The senator described it as a “small town” where the residents told people what was on their minds, built things with their hands, and loved their families, God, and community. He said that they’d been “cast aside and forgotten” by Washington politicians.

Vance told the RNC crowd that when he was a sophomore in high school, Joe Biden, then a senator, was destroying the American middle class. Three years later, when he was a senior, Biden supported the Iraq invasion. The GOP VP candidate knows all about the War on Terror. When he graduated high school, he joined the US Marine Corps and was deployed to Iraq. During his time overseas, he served as a combat correspondent and was assigned to the Public Affairs division of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.

Vance went to Ohio State University, then Yale University, and wrote “Hillbilly Elegy,” which was later turned into a movie. The book focused on his grandparents’ Appalachian roots and discussed the region’s struggles with poverty and drug addiction. The senator’s mother was a drug addict who allowed her parents to raise her kids most of the time. He told the RNC crowd that he called his grandmother “Mawmaw” and raised him like he was her own kid.

The senator eventually became a wildly popular businessman. He said that he’s lived the American dream.

Trump Supporter

The vice presidential candidate used his speech to reaffirm his support for Trump. He talked about the attempted assassination. The Republican said that after being shot, Trump called on everyone “[t]o fight for America,” praising the former president for still thinking about the country even after suffering such a traumatizing event.

Vance called Trump “tough” and a “beloved father and grandfather.” The senator called for the country to unite and said the GOP is already united to win the election. He finished his speech by promising that he and Trump would fight for them every minute they were in the White House.
