Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was admitted to Johns Hopkins Hospital Friday night (Nov. 22nd). After falling ill earlier that day and being referred by Washington, DC’s Sibley Memorial Hospital, Ginsburg spent two nights in the Baltimore facility. She was reportedly suffering from fever and chills.
The 86-year-old Liberal judge has had a string of health issues in the last year. In December 2018 she had surgery for lung cancer, which was followed by radiation therapy for a pancreatic tumor this August. She was also treated for cancer in 1999 and 2009.
Ginsburg has also missed court hearings twice this year, ending an unbroken 25-year run with no health-related absences.
Understandably, there’s now speculation over whether the aging Ginsburg should step down. Ginsburg is defiant against this notion by saying she wants to stay on the SCOTUS bench until she’s 90. However, if she does step down, President Trump will have the opportunity to appoint a third justice to the court.
