Reports indicate tension between Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden.
People connected to Harris have accused the president’s team of racism and sexism.
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has been unusually visible in the administration.
It seems the secretary has leapfrogged Harris as the possible 2024 nominee.
(NewsReady.com) – For weeks, rumors have swirled indicating President Joe Biden isn’t happy with Vice President Kamala Harris. The camaraderie he shared with former President Barack Obama while he was VP doesn’t seem to exist with Harris. According to reports, the POTUS is frustrated with her handling of a number of issues, including the border.
While the relationships in the West Wing are frayed, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has received a lot of support from the president’s team. Press Secretary Jen Psaki went to bat for the transportation secretary recently when he received criticism for taking paternity leave. Those close to Harris insinuated the support Buttigieg receives has something to do with him being a white man.
Now, the Harris team is angry, and her approval ratings plummet, even while the Democratic Party continues warming up to Buttigieg and has edged her out of the 2024 discussions.
Buttigieg’s Skyrocketing Popularity
According to an MSNBC report, Harris is paying a high price as vice president. Democratic donors, pundits, and strategists are turning away from her and eyeing Buttigieg as a possible Biden replacement if the president doesn’t run for reelection in 2024.
That’s an incredible shift, considering the vice president is often seen as the heir apparent after a president has served his term(s). Given the fact that Harris is both the first female and the first person of color to ever serve in the VP position, one would think her nomination the next time around is in the bag. But, her sinking approval ratings, just 28% according to a USA Today-Suffolk University poll, has begun to turn off the Liberal elites.
Instead, they see Buttigieg, the first gay man to serve in a presidential cabinet, as a much easier choice for 2024. His core support is similar to Harris’, and he isn’t angering the country in the same way Harris does. He won’t have the same amount of baggage going into 2024, and he’s currently implementing a massive infrastructure bill that will help boost cities (if spent correctly).
Although it’s still early, it looks like 2024 could be a bloodbath for the Democratic Party, and the wounds will be self-inflicted.
