(NewsReady.com) – Former LA Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash along with eight others Sunday morning. Witnesses say the basketball legend’s Sikorsky S-76 helicopter went down in foggy conditions near Calabasas, about 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna was also among the victims.
Bryant, who retired from basketball in 2016, had one of the most distinguished careers in the sport’s history. His honors include four All-Star Most Valuable Player awards — with Bob Pettit, the most in NBA history — and two Olympic gold medals. After retiring, he went on to a successful second career as a businessman and philanthropist. One of his main concerns was to get young people to take an interest in politics and vote.
Following the crash, Bryant fans gathered near the scene and placed tributes. The Federal Transport Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and FBI have all announced investigations into the accident.
