Kremlin Responds to Report About Ukraine Buildup on Border with Belarus

(NewsReady.com) – Belarus has supported Russia since Vladimir Putin authorized the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Ukrainian government is facing allegations that it’s moving troops to the border. The Eastern European nation is shooting down nefarious rumors.

At the end of June, the Belarusian military accused Ukraine of deploying its troops to the border between the two nations for potential “sabotage, terrorist acts.” Colonel Vadim Lukashevich, the high-ranking military official, reportedly told a news outlet in Belarus that the situation at the “border is characterized by growing tension.” He accused Ukraine of “attempting to drag [Belarus] into the war.”

Lukashevich claimed Ukraine was stationing military equipment, including those produced in America, on the border.

Belarus got involved in the war when it first began. The country is a close ally of Russia, and before the conflict started, the Belarusian government allowed Putin’s forces to conduct military drills, and then they staged part of the invasion from the Belarus-Ukraine border.

Ukraine responded to the recent allegations by saying the statements were part of an “information operation” conducted by the Russian government. They said they kept their troops on the border to prevent any provocations.

Belarus began reinforcing its border with Ukraine. The country deployed multiple launch rocket systems to the region. The Belarusian military also claimed it shot down a quadrocopter that illegally crossed the border and tried to collect intelligence.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that he couldn’t speak about what Belarus said. He said their communications were kept close because they were part of a union state with Russia. Peskov said the ministries of defense keep in close contact with one another.

On July 3 and 4, Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan. Prior to the event, Peskov said the two leaders wouldn’t be discussing the alleged troop build-up unless there was a reason to do so.
