(NewsReady.com) – The US relationship with Russia is strained, to say the least. President Joe Biden has issued a number of sanctions against the former Soviet nation for its bombing and invasion of neighboring Ukraine. Now, a US congressman wants the FBI to investigate what he believes is a spy compound in America.
On Tuesday, March 22, Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) told reporters that Americans are “appalled and alarmed” by the war in Ukraine and the “war crimes” being committed by the Russian military. He then said he was asking the FBI to open a formal investigation into reports of spying at the Russian Diplomatic Compound in NYC. Torres sent letters to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), FBI, CIA, and Attorney General Merrick Garland asking them to look into the 20-story high-rise.
The Russian Diplomatic Compound in the #Bronx is shrouded in secrecy & may pose a threat to our national security. I’m calling on the @FBI & @TheJusticeDept to conduct an investigation into the Compound & bring to light the activities going on behind closed doors. pic.twitter.com/bcVMZZEIZh

According to the letter, Torres alleges the community surrounding the complex has had concerns since it was under construction in 1974. The high-security compound was the site of a fire in 2011, but the FDNY wasn’t allowed to enter to put it out. In 2015, the FBI arrested and expelled Russian agent Evgeny Buryakov, who was in regular contact with Russian officials at the compound, leading authorities to believe there’s espionage taking place.
Do you think the FBI should investigate the Russian compound?
