Lawmaker Survives Gun Attack at His Home

(NewsReady.com) – On April 4, Connecticut State Senator Gary Winfield (D) was at home with his family when gunfire erupted outside. Several bullets hit his home and a man who was out on the street. The lawmaker is now saying it wasn’t a politically-motivated attack.

At about 10 p.m. on Monday evening, April 4, the night of the shooting, Winfield took to Facebook to explain what happened. He thanked everyone for their concern, and assured them every one in his home was fine. The senator explained that his four younger kids didn’t really know what was going on, so he and his wife made them think they were playing a game when they got low.

Outside, however, was a different story. A 33-year-old man was walking past the senator’s house when someone in a vehicle began shooting. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds, and he’s in stable condition at Yale New Haven Hospital.

According to the Harford Courant, police believe the victim was the actual target of the shooting. The senator commented on a Twitter post explaining that when the shooting started, the victim ran in the direction of his home, which drew the fire in that direction. The gunshots left holes in the Senator’s house.
