(NewsReady.com) – In 2018, reports revealed Johnson & Johnson knew its baby powder products could cause cancer for decades and did nothing about it. That year, a court ruled in favor of 22 women who sued over the product. The court ordered the company to pay over $2 billion to the women; this year, the Supreme Court refused to overrule that judgment, leaving it in place. Now, J&J is back in the news again, this time over other products.
On Wednesday, July 14, the company issued a recall on five aerosol sunscreen products. The products were found to contain a carcinogenic (cancer-causing) substance. The recalled aerosol sunscreens include:
- Aveeno Protect + Refresh
- Neutrogena Cool Dry Sport
- Neutrogena Invisible Daily
- Neutrogena Beach Defense
- Neutrogena Ultra Sheer
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) said on Wednesday it is voluntarily recalling all lots of five Neutrogena and Aveeno brand aerosol sunscreen products from the market after detecting a cancer-causing chemical in some samples. https://t.co/5s2SVmgC0m

Benzene was found in some of the samples taken of the products. The chemical can cause harm when it’s absorbed into the skin or inhaled. The ingredient is not one the company uses in the products. J&J said it was investigating to find out how the ingredient got into the sunscreen, but the company doesn’t believe it will lead to any adverse health effects for people who have used the products.
