Massive Explosion in Sweden Possibly Caused By Bomb

Massive Explosion in Sweden Caused By Bomb

(NewsReady.com) – Sweden is known as one of the safest countries in the world. However, that doesn’t mean it’s completely free of crime. In fact, in recent years there have been multiple bombs set off in the country. Recently, an explosion at an apartment complex is leaving authorities with a sinking feeling.

On Monday, September 27, an explosion rocked an apartment building in Gothenburg. The blast injured roughly 20 people and forced hundreds to evacuate. According to officials, the explosion took place at 4:45 a.m. local time. At first, people thought gas might have been the cause, but fire officials quickly ruled that out.

Stefan Gustafsson, a police spokesperson, told CNN the fire department said there wasn’t any gas in the building, so a leak didn’t cause it. Instead, law enforcement believes, “There is no natural explanation for the explosion,” the spokesman explained.

Thomas Fuxborg, another police spokesman, told reporters that a device of some sort had probably been planted at the scene. Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said the country was going to “do everything possible to fight gang crime.”

In recent years, gang violence has caused an increase in crime in the country. Officers are continuing to investigate the explosion to find out what happened.
