McCarthy Is Finally Bringing Investigators In

(NewsReady.com) – Republicans finally agreed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) would serve as Speaker of the House during the 118th Congress. The conservative won the position after 15 rounds of voting. Now, lawmakers have passed a new rules package for the House and in it are multiple investigative panels.

On Monday, January 9, the House voted on a new package of rules. They established several investigative committees to reportedly carry out their oversight duties. The GOP has repeatedly pledged to look into several actions President Joe Biden’s administration has taken and other things they have accused him of doing.

Two of the most important Republican-led committees will probe the FBI and relations with China, according to a document released by them.

The Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government will fall under the Judiciary Committee and look into allegedly partisan actions by the FBI. Republicans have previously expressed dismay about a directive that went out in 2021 about the intention of the DOJ to take action against parents who threaten their local school boards. The GOP is also concerned about the raid on former President Donald Trump’s home and subsequent investigation.

In addition, Republicans are forming the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party Committee. Lawmakers have not said exactly what this panel is going to do. It’s unclear if they will look into the administration’s actions, find new ways America can compete with the communist nation globally, or take up both topics.

Lawmakers have also previously discussed investigating Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and whether the president was involved in his son, Hunter Biden’s, shady overseas business dealings.

Currently, the GOP only controls the House of Representatives. So if they complete their probes and decide to impeach, it’s unclear how far they’ll actually be able to take their investigations.
