Middle School Teacher “Got Carried Away” With Inappropriate Student Relationship

(NewsReady.com) – Teacher Mary Kay Letourneau shocked the country when she was arrested for having a sexual relationship with her 12-year-old student in 1997. She gave birth to two of his children. Sadly, nearly three decades later, another female educator has been arrested for allegedly committing a similar crime.

A teacher in Laredo, Texas, was recently charged with indecency with a child—sexual contact, sexual abuse of a child under 14, and improper relationship between educator and student. According to reports, 27-year-old Adriana Mariel Rullan was a teacher at Antonio Gonzalez Middle School. While on the job, she met a 13-year-old boy that she allegedly carried on a relationship with for months.

Between August 18 and November 19, the teacher is accused of having “sexual intercourse/sexual contact” with the boy at least 12 times during school. The alleged relationship was discovered after the parents of the boy accused her of sending sexual photos and texts to their child.

In one of the text exchanges, the teacher reportedly told the student she thought she might be pregnant. The child’s stepfather told police that he found a series of Cash App transactions from a suspicious account. He looked at the child’s phone after he spent $133 at a local sporting goods store and told his parents he received the money from friends. The police accused the teacher of owning that account.

The teenager ran away from home after his parents went through his phone and found the messages. The stepdad called the number on the boy’s phone, and the teacher picked it up. She eventually admitted she was his teacher and offered to help his parents find him. The stepfather was able to find him on his own and then filed a complaint against the educator in the following weeks.

Before being arrested, police spoke to Rullan and denied having sex with the boy. However, she told police that she “just got carried away.”
