Mother Foils Brazen Daytime Kidnapping Attempt

(NewsReady.com) – In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, NPR reported National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre said, “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.” The Left has long called the assertion a myth. Gun rights advocates now have more data to support their position.

On January 5, property manager Shay Lindberg was working at the Hubbell Tower Apartments in Des Moines, Iowa, when two people walked in the front door. The employee was there with her young son. When the man and woman entered the building, one of them tried to grab the child.

Lindberg and the would-be kidnappers began to fight, and the mother was desperate to save her child. That’s when she decided to pull out her legally-owned firearm.

Des Moines Police Department Sergeant Paul Parizek told Fox 17 that Lindberg’s decision to brandish her gun turned the situation around. He called it a “pivotal piece to keeping her child safe,” and she used it to tell them to let her kid go. The police official said that he thinks it was the “turning point” that ultimately saved her child.

Law enforcement arrested Laurie Lynn Potter, 57, and Michael Ernest Ross, 43, for a count of felony child stealing. Potter was on probation when the alleged crime took place and was also booked on two counts of violating probation.

The incident was at least the second time in recent weeks that a gun owner saved someone. On December 30, two men tried to abduct a woman in Memphis, Tennessee, as she tried to get into her vehicle. A bystander saw what was happening and drew his weapon, then the attempted kidnappers released the woman and fled the scene. The incident was caught on video.

The assailants were able to flee the scene.

In the incident case in Iowa, the suspects are now being held in the Polk County Jail.
