Nancy Pelosi Launches New Bid for Re-Election Despite Retirement Claims

(NewsReady.com) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is one of the most polarizing figures in modern-day politics. The 81-year-old congresswoman has served in office for almost 40 years. But, it looks like she intends to stick around for at least a couple more years.

On January 25, the Speaker announced she plans to run for reelection in 2022 and seek a 19th term in office. Pelosi said her decision to run again is based on the work she believes Democrats have left to do “to improve people’s lives.” She claims the election security laws across the nation coupled with the events of January 6, 2021, all contributed to her decision.

There was a lot of talk about Pelosi possibly retiring this term and passing the baton down to someone else in the Democratic Party. Some Progressives believe she has been in power for far too long. The congresswoman was first elected to office in 1987 during a special election. She has served California’s San Francisco area since then, and she’s been in charge of House Democrats since 2003 – becoming the first female Speaker of the House in 2007.

Republicans believe Pelosi’s reign has damaged the US. She oversaw the impeachment of former President Donald Trump twice, and took action to strip multiple members of the GOP caucus of their committee assignments. Unfortunately, they’ll likely have to deal with her until 2024 at least.

Do you think Pelosi should resign?
