(NewsReady.com) – President Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves in the US with his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. His decision propelled the country into a bloody civil war, but he still went down in history as one of the greatest commanders-in-chief in American history. So, why are protestors trying to remove his statue?
A petition is circulating to remove a statue of President Lincoln and a slave in Boston’s Park Square. The Emancipation Memorial shows the former president standing above a slave who is kneeling at his feet. As of June 16, 9,527 people have signed the petition.
According to the petitioner, Tory Bullock, the statue should come down because it “represents us still beneath someone else.”
Over 7,000 people have signed a petition to remove The Boston Emancipation Memorial.
The statue, depicting Abraham Lincoln freeing a slave, has been a subject of controversy, despite being paid for by former slaves, because of the inferior, kneeling position of the freed slave. pic.twitter.com/GCeGnDOq0o

The reason is a bit baffling when you know the origin of the statue, however. It’s a replica of the original in Washington, DC that former slaves funded.
That’s right, actual slaves paid for the original. They believed it represents freedom and obviously, they were grateful for what Lincoln did. Now, 100 years later, the generation of the woke wants to get rid of it? Is anything safe?
