Pelosi Sets New Fundraising Record

Pelosi Sets New Fundraising Record

(NewsReady.com) – On November 2, Democrats suffered embarrassing losses in Virginia. The night was an indication of how much work the party has ahead of them if they want to retain power in 2022. Despite the losses of the night, the campaign arm for House Democrats and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) set a fundraising record.

On Tuesday night, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) held a record-setting fundraiser in Washington, DC. The dinner reportedly drew in lawmakers who donated to the party, and then Pelosi’s campaign matched the total dollar-for-dollar, bringing it up to $5.2 million.

While Democrats were raising money, the off-year elections were brutal for them. Democrat Terry McAuliffe, a former governor of Virginia, lost his bid to regain that seat. Republicans also won a number of state seats, splitting the legislature evenly. In New Jersey, Democrat Phil Murphy expected to sail to victory in that gubernatorial race, but it remained too close to call on Wednesday evening.

The money is going to be used to try to retain power in the House next year when America votes in the midterms. Democrats are going to need every penny they raise if they hope to do that.
