Per James Carville, “It’s Inevitable” That Biden Will Withdraw

(NewsReady.com) – The fallout from President Joe Biden’s debate performance is continuing. Democratic lawmakers, strategists, and celebrities have called on the Democratic incumbent to drop out of the race. James Carville, former President Bill Clinton’s lead strategist for his 1992 campaign, believes Biden will withdraw his candidacy.

Democrats Need a Plan

On July 8, The New York Times published an op-ed written by Carville. In it, the longtime Democratic strategist predicted Biden would “be out of the 2024 presidential race. Whether he is ready to admit it or not.” He said that even though the president has said he intends to remain in the race, “Democratic pressure and public and private polling” will lead to his departure.

Carville reiterated his position later that day in an interview with News Nation’s Chris Cuomo. He said that while he doesn’t “predict things,” he thinks “it’s inevitable” that Biden will leave the race. He went on to say that the people close to him “will get the message to him” and “they’ll make the right decision.”

In his op-ed, the strategist told Democrats that they will need a plan for when the time comes. He said they cannot “anoint” Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, they’ll need to choose someone openly. He suggested the party hold four town halls in the different regions of the country, hosted by Clinton and former President Barack Obama, and choose the next nominee from a pool of eight contenders.

The party has not responded to Carville’s master plan.

Obama Speechwriter Calls on Biden to Drop Out

Carville isn’t the only Democrat who sees the writing on the wall. Jon Lovett, a former speechwriter for Obama and host of the podcast “Pod Save America,” posted a long message on X, formerly Twitter, recommending Biden leave the race.

In the post, Lovett said, “There have always been two Joe Bidens.” He explained that there’s the guy who loves America and is “empathetic, decent,” and a good leader. Then there is the “blowhard with a chip on his shoulder.” He summed up the two sides as a “[s]tatesman and politician, hero and fool.”

Lovett applauded Biden for his work over the last four years but said America is seeing the “arrogant and small Joe Biden” who is “hanging on, bragging, defensive, angry, weak.” He declared the president could leave office with his dignity intact or “destroy his legacy and […] democracy with it.”

Several lawmakers and movie stars, including George Clooney, have also told Biden to drop out of the race.
