(NewsReady.com) – It’s no secret the grip social media companies have on our political speech has been problematic for years. But, it’s become very noticeable since President Donald Trump took office. Conservatives are censored and booted from platforms left and right. Twitter has even gone as far as censoring the commander-in-chief.
According to a new poll, Americans aren’t amused.
A study by Pew Research concerning opinions about social media was released on July 22, and the results were a bit surprising. According to respondents, three out of four believe the companies are too powerful. Additionally, about 47% of those polled think the tech giants need more regulation; of those people, 48% were Republicans.
47% of the U.S. public thinks the government should be regulating major technology companies more than it is now, while just 11% think these companies should be regulated less. About four-in-ten believe regulation should stay at its current level. https://t.co/aIaFC6sDz7 pic.twitter.com/WOSgE79mqj

With an election on the horizon, it’s incredibly important social media companies aren’t allowed to run roughshod over our speech. This is especially so when Conservatives feel they’re being censored far more often than Liberals. The good news is President Trump signed an executive order that’ll help loosen their grip on speech earlier this year, so the tech giants know he’s watching.
