(NewsReady.com) – Pharmaceutical companies have issued multiple recalls for blood pressure medications over the last few years. For example, in March 2022, Pfizer issued a recall for Accuretic tablets and two of its generic forms. Now, Lupin Pharmaceuticals has issued a recall of its own.
On December 21, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified the public that Lupin issued a voluntary recall of four lots of its Quinapril Tablets. According to the notice, testing found a nitrosamine impurity known as N-Nitroso-Quinapril in the medication, and it was above the acceptable level. Though nitrosamines are common in dairy products, vegetables, and grilled and cured meats, they increase the risk of cancer if a person is exposed to high levels for an extended period of time.

Patients should ask their pharmacists if their medication was part of the lots that were recalled, which included the following:
- Quinapril Tablets USP, 20mg with lot number G102929
- Quinapril Tablets USP, 40mg with lot number G100533
- Quinapril Tablets USP, 40mg with lot number G100534
- Quinapril Tablets USP, 40mg with lot number G203071
Patients should not stop taking their medication without first speaking to the pharmacist and getting a replacement. Untreated high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, and death.
