Russia Trying To Annex Ukrainian Territory Will End Diplomatic Talks, Says Zelenskyy
(NewsReady.com) – Russian President Vladimir Putin recently revealed a plan to formally annex four Ukrainian regions. His counterpart in the neighboring nation is now issuing a warning.
According to reports, the Russian military has been rounding Ukrainians up at gunpoint in the Luhansk, Kherson, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions and forcing them to vote to allow Putin to steal the territories and become Russians. The referendums are illegal under international and Ukrainian law.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to CBS’ “Face the Nation” about the Russian move. He said he believes the referendum might “lead to very tragic moments” because Putin’s forces can do things like turn off electricity for families who refuse and “won’t give them an opportunity to live a normal human life.” He went on to say residents could be incarcerated and that the invading force “also announced mobilization.”

Zelenskyy went on to say if Putin continues moving forward with his plot to annex the regions, then there’s no reason to “continue any diplomatic negotiations.” It would be a signal the Russian leader “is not going to finish” the war.
The US and other allies have condemned Putin for the illegal referendums. Experts have pointed out he will almost certainly succeed because there is no infrastructure set up to ensure fair elections.
