Rand Paul Says He’s Shutting It Down – He’s Not Alone!
(NewsReady.com) – Last month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) established the Disinformation Governance Board to help establish best practices for the government to fight back against misinformation and disinformation. Republicans slammed President Joe Biden’s administration, comparing the board to George Orwell’s dystopian “Ministry of Truth.”
On May 9, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime” to discuss his plans to dismantle the DHS board. “We’re going to shut it down,” the senator said. He told Watters he has been collecting the signatures of other senators and believes there might be a way to bring the issue to a vote on the Senate floor.
Paul said that although it might not be easy to do while Democrats control Congress, he’s going to try to defund the board. He told Watters, “This is not your grandfather’s Democrat Party [sic] anymore.”
The senator pointed out the Democratic Party has pushed its own disinformation in the past. They celebrated the Steele Dossier and its allegations against former President Donald Trump; later, the dossier was widely debunked. They also claimed there was collusion between Russia and Trump, which Special Counsel Robert Mueller later proved wrong. It seems like the new board is very much a case of the Left living in a glass house and throwing stones.
