In 2018, Florida voters passed a measure to restore voting rights to felons.
Republicans responded by passing a law requiring the felons to pay all money owed for their crimes.
Governor Ron DeSantis (R) recently won a case to force the convicted to pay the fines.
Mike Bloomberg raised more than $20 million to pay off the debt of 31,000 felons.
(NewsReady.com) – Michael Bloomberg may have lost the Democratic primary, but that isn’t stopping him from getting involved in the presidential race. What’s worse is that he’s not inserting himself in his own state’s election in New York; he’s messing around in Florida. Now, a Republican lawmaker in the Sunshine State is calling for a criminal probe.
Turmoil in the Sunshine State
In 2018, Florida voters passed an amendment to restore voter rights to felons who have completed their sentence. Shortly after, Republicans passed a law that requires the convicted criminals to pay off all of the court fees, fines, and restitution before they can vote. The lawmakers said it’s fair because that is part of their sentence.
Democrats fought hard and sued the state. Ultimately, they were unsuccessful.
That’s when Bloomberg and others stepped in to pay the money.
Gaetz Calls for Investigation
On September 22, Bloomberg announced he’d paid off the court fees, fines, and restitution of 31,000 Florida felons. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) spoke to Sean Hannity about the Liberal New Yorker’s actions in the state and said he believes there is a “criminal investigation underway” to look into it.
Gaetz said he believes Bloomberg is trying to buy off voters to tip the scales of the election by giving them something of value. He called Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to investigate the former NYC mayor. The Republican prosecutor is doing just that.
On Wednesday, Moody said she sent a letter to the FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to investigate “potential violations of election laws.”
The Left wants to use the felons’ to beat President Donald Trump in November. And it seems they will go to great lengths to make that happen.
