(NewsReady.com) – There’s a lot of tension between Republican and Democratic state leaders these days as they navigate social issues such as abortion, immigration, and LGBTQ+ rights. California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) have made no attempt to hide their dislike for each other. That only escalated in the face of recent migrant flights from Texas to California. On Monday, June 12, Newsom spoke with Fox News host Sean Hannity and said he’d welcome the chance to debate his counterpart. DeSantis has now fired back.
Newsom claims DeSantis' migrant flights have a 'different spirit,' worse than Biden's in 'Hannity' exclusive https://t.co/pFyzWj0zAN

Hannity and Newsom were discussing the legality of the migrant flights that landed in Sacramento when Newsom took a swipe at DeSantis, saying that he just wants part of the action. The Fox News host pushed back and said the migrants signed waivers, a move that the California governor said made no sense to him.
When asked by Hannity if he would “do a two-hour debate” with DeSantis, Newsom nonchalantly replied, “Make it three.” He said he would take on the Florida governor with little notice and “no notes.” DeSantis apparently found this funny. When asked about the comment during a press conference, he chuckled before responding that Newsom has “huge problems in his state.” He went on to say that the California leader is the first to oversee “a massive exodus out of” the state.
DeSantis also noted that it’s common for people to move to Florida from colder states, but when they’re coming from Southern California, it’s clear there are issues with the state, such as it being “ill-governed.”
Then, DeSantis threw down the gauntlet when he asked if Newsom was “going to sit on the sidelines and chirp” or join the presidential race. Newsom has previously said if President Joe Biden ran again, he would not toss his name in the hat but rather support the current commander-in-chief.
