Russian Leader Complains About Ukraine's Aggression
  • Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
  • Estimates claim Vladimir Putin has lost nearly 100k troops.
  • Ukraine has been gaining ground in recent months.
  • A Russian official claims Ukraine is aggressive.

(NewsReady.com) – When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, it was immediately clear the smaller nation was outgunned. Russian President Vladimir Putin had spent months building up troops along the border, and then they rushed in at once. The invasion was so aggressive, many thought the war would end quickly.

Nearly a year later, the battle is still raging. Ukraine is being aided by billions of dollars in equipment from the US and its allies. The country has been able to retake areas that its neighbor initially occupied. Now, a Russian official is complaining the nation his country invaded is being too aggressive.

Allegations of Aggression

According to Newsweek, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin complained to Turkey that the Ukrainian military is being overly aggressive. The official then spoke to reporters after his meeting with Turkish officials and repeated the complaint. He said he was updating the country on the way, including “the totally aggressive behavior of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

Vershinin went on to claim the Ukrainian military was attacking civilians in the Donbas region, the area that Putin tried to annex. Ukraine has mounted a massive offensive in recent months, striking the Donbas region and Crimea, both areas Putin believes he owns. Reports have also surfaced that the invaded nation is launching rockets into Russia.

In early December, Moscow claimed three of its soldiers died after Ukraine allegedly hit a base inside Russia with drones. One of the targets attacked was the Engels air base, where the county houses some of its strategic nuclear forces.

Peace Talks

Vershinin also accused Ukraine and the United States of undermining peace talks. Putin has said a treaty might be the only way to end the war. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, told the press there aren’t any prospects of peace talks at this time.

Shortly after the war began, the two countries came together for peace talks. However, negotiations quickly broke down. Russia wants Ukraine to agree never to try to join NATO. Meanwhile, Ukraine demanded Putin be taken out of power, though in recent months, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hasn’t mentioned that as a condition for talks.

For now, the war is showing no signs of ending.

Do you think Ukraine is being aggressive? Or do you think Russia is the actual aggressor because they invaded the country to begin with?
