(NewsReady.com) – A bipartisan group of senators is looking to control the amount of disinformation being spread by foreign agents using the press. They’ve decided to take action by targeting the foreign press corps. It’s a wonder why this wasn’t done sooner.
A bill introduced on July 2 will require media outlets to tell consumers if they’re registered under the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA). It was introduced on the Senate floor by:
- Senators John Cornyn (R-TX)
- Ben Sasse (R-NE)
- Richard Blumenthal (D-CT)
- Kamala Harris (D-CA)
By forcing these foreign agents to disclose this information, lawmakers hope the public won’t be easily swayed by the content they put out for their readers, viewers, and listeners to consume.
If foreign countries are spreading propaganda, then American consumers have a right to know where their information is coming from.

Senator Cornyn explained it’s more important now, in an election year, than ever to cut down on foreign media campaigns. That’s certainly a concern as we move toward President Donald Trump’s re-election race.
Bad actors trying to use the press as a means to spread their messages need to be called out. This bill will help to properly inform audiences of their agendas.
