A tragic shooting occurred inside of the US Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard this week. The event left one wounded and three dead, including the shooter, who took his own life. Luckily, the injured service member is in stable condition.
The motive behind the shooting is not yet fully understood. First-hand sources are currently unable to tell whether the gunman fired at random or was targeting specific individuals. The base was on lockdown for roughly two hours.
The shooter, whose name has yet to be publicly disclosed, was an active sailor. He was assigned to the USS Columbia, a submarine currently docked for maintenance. Investigations are currently underway to determine exactly what happened and why.
This shooting came mere days before the 78th anniversary of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor in WWII.
