The SOTU's Big Moments and Controversies

(NewsReady.com) – President Trump’s State of the Union Address was similar to last year’s format. However, there seemed to be more drama and controversy during and after his speech.

Rush Limbaugh, the famous conservative talk radio show host, was recently diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. Although he’s still fighting it and doing his show, there are always unknowns when battling cancer. To commemorate Limbaugh’s influence on politics during his career, Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Three Democrats walked out during the State of the Union in protest over the president’s actions. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) abruptly left the room as Trump was speaking. Some went to Twitter to vent:

The end of Trump’s address was riddled with controversy, too. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tore up her copy of the president’s speech after he finished. Republicans have attacked Pelosi over what they see as an act of disrespect. Meanwhile, the “Squad,” a collection of freshmen members of Congress, praised Pelosi for this event.

Before the speech, she’d attempted to shake Trump’s hand but he turned away:

No matter what side of the aisle viewers were on, there’s certainly something for everyone to talk about after Trump’s latest speech.
