(NewsReady.com) – Former President Donald Trump almost died on July 13 when a gunman targeted him at his Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. While the alleged attempted assassin only nicked Trump’s ear, he seriously injured two others and murdered a third bystander. A senator recently issued a preliminary report about what happened, including that law enforcement reported a possible assassin before the shooting.
On July 21, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) issued the report about Trump’s attempted assassination. The report contained a timeline of events. It was noted that the first time a local law enforcement sniper noticed the suspected gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was approximately one hour before the shooting. At that time, he didn’t have a weapon. Then about 20 minutes later, one of the snipers protecting the president noticed Crooks had a range finder. The sniper sent a message to a group chat and was told to report the man to command.
At 5:41 p.m., 30 minutes before the shooting, the sniper called command to report Crooks. Four minutes later, he texted the group command chat and warned them about the suspect. At 5:59 p.m., a Beaver County law enforcement operator received confirmation from the command that it was aware of the concerns and wanted more information about Crooks’ location.
At 6:09, attendees reported a man with a gun. Two minutes later, at 6:11 p.m., the suspect opened fire. Twelve minutes after the president was shot, two Beaver County law enforcement officers accessed the roof where the attempted assassin was located and found him dead.
Senator Johnson wanted to know what the Secret Service did with the information it had about Crooks in the minutes before the shooting. The report questioned why the federal law enforcement agency didn’t send agents to the location where Crooks was spotted. More importantly, the senator’s report questioned why Trump was even allowed to take the stage.
Those are all questions the lawmaker hopes to get answers to in the days ahead.
