(NewsReady.com) – Celebrities, lawmakers, and political experts have continued calling on President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. George Clooney is leading the charge among celebrities. Actress Mia Farrow also spoke out against the president but then backtracked.
Farrow posted a message on X, formerly Twitter, and said she thinks it’s time for the president “to pass the torch” or Democrats were in danger of losing “the Senate, the House and [America’s] Democracy.” The “Rosemary’s Baby” star said that she would still vote for him if he refused to step down, but argued the president “is losing” and said, “We cannot EVER give our country back to [Donald] Trump.”
The actress mentioned an op-ed Clooney wrote for The New York Times that called on Biden to step down. In it, the former “ER” actor said Biden isn’t the person he used to know. Farrow pointed out that Clooney and the president were together three weeks before the debate for a fundraiser and said that Biden’s behavior wasn’t just different on the night of the debate. She said she cares about the country and hopes the president will name someone else to carry his accomplishments forward.
Days later, Farrow backtracked after the president held a press conference. She said that “he made it clear in the Q&A that he knows more than 99.9% of us.” The actress also applauded the president for making “decisions that have strengthened our economy” and alliances with other nations. If he runs and wins, she said that he would “continue to do valuable work for” the American people.
While it appears Farrow is back in the president’s corner, actress Ashley Judd is not. The “Double Jeopardy” actress and Democratic activist wrote an opinion piece for USA Today calling on Biden to drop out of the race. Clooney has also refused to backtrack.
