Transgender Teacher Removed After Threatening Children

(NewsReady.com) – The issue of transgender rights is a polarizing issue across the country. While its being debated in statehouses and the federal government, trans people still exist. Like a teacher in Florida who was recently removed from the classroom.

On April 13, the superintendent of the Hernando County School District published a letter about an incident that occurred at Fox Chapel Middle School. According to the county, an unnamed teacher at the school was under investigation for comments they allegedly made on March 24.

Bay News 9, the local news station, reported the teacher made “concerning” comments but didn’t say what they were. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office carried out a separate investigation and found there was no threat. Parents were frustrated with the school board for not revealing what the teacher said. The only thing that it would confirm was that the educator allegedly made comments about harming her students and herself after she grew frustrated by the way they were behaving. Other outlets have reported the kids were making fun of her gender identity, causing her distress.

The teacher was allowed to remain in the classroom until the Florida Department of Education stepped in. On April 14, the state agency announced the teacher was removed from the school on Thursday, April 13.

While some parents were angry about the alleged threats, others come to the teacher’s defense. They told WEAR-TV that she was only being targeted because she is transgender, alleging the allegations against her were “clearly false.” However, the defenders were in the minority. The vast majority of parents were demanding discipline.

The school district has said it will not comment on the case any further. The investigation is currently ongoing, and it’s unclear if the teacher will ever be allowed back in a classroom. She is, however, cooperating with the district’s officials.
