Democrats are pushing for mail-in voting as a “safe” alternative in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Republicans believe it will lead to more voter fraud and a rigged election.
The Trump Campaign has sued multiple states over expansions of mail-in voting policies.
There are less than two months until the 2020 election.
(NewsReady.com) – President Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) have been fighting hard against an extension of mail-in voting practices so close to the 2020 election. The organizations believe it’s going to put our democracy at risk as there’s a higher potential for fraud when voting by mail. And, they aren’t just warning about it at rallies and on Twitter.
Off to Court, They Go
On September 2, the Trump Campaign and RNC sued Montana over Governor Steve Bullock’s (D) decision to expand mail-in voting. The governor issued a directive giving counties the option to hold their election by mail because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bullock claimed the lawsuit is an attempt by GOP operatives to “limit access to voting during the pandemic.” He went on to say voting by mail in the state is “safe, secure” and has received bipartisan support. However, there’s no way to really guarantee the method is safe because the ballots are not filled out in front of poll workers.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said the directive is a “power grab” by Bullock and it’s “unconstitutional.” She believes it will lead to a “patchwork election with no uniform procedures” and will invite chaos and fraud.
Montana Joins Other States
Montana is the latest on a list of states Trump and the RNC have sued. In August, the organizations filed lawsuits against New Jersey and Nevada. Republicans believe sending out ballots to all registered voters will lead to fraud because those ballots might not get to the actual legal voter.
Further, the election is right around the corner. How in the world can these states implement a safe voting system with less than two months before they will have to fill out the ballots? It’s going to invite chaos, but maybe that’s the point.
